On July 31st, 2020 Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands held it’s 17th Key Ceremony celebrating a new HFHTI homeowner. During the ceremony held in the Cardinal home backyard, a letter of congratulations from the Hon. Steve Clark MPP , who was unable to attend, was read by Pamela Little (Board Chair). This was followed by speeches and congratulatory certificates presented by Micheal Barett MP, and Mayor Sayeau with Councillors Stephen Dillabough and Hugh Cameron. During the ceremony there were also some very generous gifts given to the family. Using funds from a grant from the McNeil Foundation, both children were given a desk, chair and a tablet to assist them in their studies.The Thousand Islands Quilters’ Guild represented by Gloria Van Dusen and Debbie Stewart, presented every family member with a beautiful hand made quilt from the guild members.  Alloy Foundry Co. Ltd, who were not able to attend, are sending on a hand made house number for the family’s home.
The Young family was very excited to take possession of their new home, sending heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, contractors and donors who made it possible.

At the end of the Key Ceremony Karyne Besso and Linda DeVerno made a presentation of a cheque for $2000.00 to Pamela Little (Board Chair) for HFHTI. This cheque represented the profits from the sales of hand made Covid-19 cotton masks that were made by Karyne Besso (organizer) along with Linda DeVerno, Bev Cooper, Jacquie Raymond, Ella Leson , Marie Russell and Dominique Besso. A HUGE thank you to these amazing volunteers who took the time and energy to make all these masks.

 The masks are available for purchase at our Kemptville and Brockville ReStores. They are also available at Watergirl Quilt Co in Prescott, where the store’s commission on the sale of the masks is generously being donated to Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands.
